Dr William Wu is Senior Teaching Fellow (Lecturer) in the (ISVR), within the Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences at the ÃÛÌÒTV.
Having obtained a BEng in Underwater Acoustics in 2019, William moved to Southampton for further studies, where he achieved his MSc and PhD in Underwater Acoustics at the ÃÛÌÒTV. William was also a Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Doctoral Fellow under the .
William's current research is closely related to underwater acoustics and bioacoustics, together with the supporting techniques like signal processing and finite element modelling.
In addition to his doctoral project on fish swim bladder resonance detection, he is also working on underwater noise investigation and propagation modelling in complex acoustic environments like shallow waters, together with . Moreover, he has been actively working on the development of acoustic-sensitive and thermal-insensitive fibre optic hydrophones, in collaboration with the Optoelectronics Research Centre (ORC), which also brought him to explore structural health monitoring using fibre optic acoustic emission sensors in extreme environments, with joint efforts from the Institute of Cryogenics.
