Nuffield Research Placement (host)

Project overview

Nuffield Research Placements give sixth form students hands-on experience of a professional research environment through a 4 - 6 week placement in their summer holidays. A student from a local secondary school (Bristol) conducted soil laboratory testing within the Civil Engineering labs.

  • Deterioration processes in ageing of transportation earthworks (e.g. highway and railway embankments and cuttings)
  • The impact of extreme weather and climate change on groundwater pressures beneath engineering structures
  • The engineering properties of Jurassic and Triassic mudstones for geotechnical design (e.g. excavations, embankments and foundations)
