Upload your profile photo in . Your profile photo in Pure is not linked to your public staff profile. Choose a clear, recent headshot where you are easily recognisable. Your image should be at least 340 by 395 pixels. 

Name 
To change your name or prefix title contact   If you want to update an academic title you'll need to provide evidence e.g. a PhD certificate. The way your name is displayed is automatic and cannot be changed. You can also update your post-nominal letters in .

Job title 
Raise a request through to change your job title (40 characters maximum) unless you're on the ERE career pathway. If you're on the ERE path you can not change your main job title, but you can request other minor updates through . If you have more than one post only your main job title will display here, but you can add further posts or roles in other sections of your profile.

Research interests (for researchers only) 
Add up to 5 research interests. The first 3 will appear in your staff profile next to your name. The full list will appear on your research page. Keep these brief and focus on the keywords people may use when searching for your work. Use a different line for each one.

In , select ‘Edit profile’. Under the heading 'Curriculum and research description', select 'Add profile information'. In the dropdown menu, select 'Research interests: use separate lines'.

Add or update your email address, telephone number and postal address in . Use your University email address for your primary email.

ORCID ID

Benjamin Sale is a data scientist specialising in the analysis of large-scale clinical, biological, and other research datasets, with expertise in managing secure data integration pipelines from diverse sources. His experience encompasses clinical trial design, management, and analysis, alongside quality management, and a strong background in Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and data security governance. He began his career in 2012 as a laboratory technician at DSTL Porton Down, earning an HNC in Natural Sciences and an NVQ in Laboratory Activities. In 2017, he graduated with a BSc in Biochemistry from the University of Bath and joined the Southampton Clinical Trials Unit (SCTU) within the Pharmacovigilance and Quality Team.

In 2019, Ben was awarded an NIHR pre-doctoral fellowship to develop his bioinformatics expertise, completing an MSc in Genomic Medicine from the TV. His bioinformatics work at SCTU, focused on the Lymphoma portfolio, provided a strong foundation in B cell malignancies. This expertise led to a role in the Forconi Cancer B Cell Group, where he supported the development of an early cancer diagnostic and research platform under the CRUK accelerator award, ECRIN-M3.

Recognising his contributions, Ben received an award from the Cancer Immunology Talent Fund to support the development of a user-friendly suite of bioinformatics tools (IgSeqR), aiming to become a key resource for immunology research.

Currently, Ben works within the Clinical Informatics Research Unit (CIRU) as part of the AXIS team. His work focuses on developing computational tools and methodologies to enhance data collection, analysis, and accessibility. He is involved in various projects across the AXIS portfolio, collaborating with members of University Hospital Southampton, the Southampton Biomedical Research Centre, the Southampton Emerging Therapies and Technologies Centre, and other national and international commercial partners. In his current role he maintains active involvement in the ECRIN-M3 consortium and research projects within the Cancer B Cell Group and supports the administration and development of the Wessex Sub National Secure Data Environment.
