Biography
Traute Meyer is a professor of Social Policy in the Department of Sociology, Social Policy and Criminology, where she has taught since 2000. Previously, she was a lecturer in the Institute of Political Science at the Free University of Berlin; before that she conducted her doctoral research in the Department of Labor Market and Employment Policy at the Social Science Center Berlin.
Traute's research examines the relationship between welfare state institutions and citizens' social risks across countries. She has focused particularly on how the ageing of societies affects pension reforms and on the consequences for social security and social inequality. Her research and publications focus on Europe and Southeast Asia geographically and on differences in social security between men and women, migrants and citizens, as well as on class-specific differences. She has led various comparative research projects on these topics; from 2007 to 2017, she was also Editor-in-Chief (with Jochen Clasen) of the Journal of European Social Policy.
