This session will help you understand the role of government analysts in policymaking, and identify how researchers can engage with government analysts to achieve policy impact.

We are delighted to launch this trainingÌýprogramme for the academic year 2023-2024 with a session exploring how academics can work with government analysts to achieve policy impact.

Nigel Campbell, who is an Adjunct Professor at the ÃÛÌÒTV. He was an economist and policy adviser at numerous Government Departments, most recently Defra (Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) until 2022. Nigel is also a policy fellow alum of the Centre for Science and Policy (CSaP) which included engagement with the ÃÛÌÒTV community. He is also Chair of the new Academy for the Mathematical Sciences.

In his previous role as the Chief Analyst in the Prime Minister's Implementation Unit in the Cabinet Office, Nigel worked on the Prime Minister’s implementation priorities which combined analysis with frontline fieldwork in order to enhance delivery. In this session, Nigel will share his experiences as a senior civil servant and some of the policies he worked on. Nigel will also be identifying how and why members of the academic community might wish to consider engaging government analysts as part of their research.
