Abstract

The presentation about Madam White Snake, considered one of the most romantic Chinese folktales, will also be a brief journey of the Chinese diaspora, a brief visit into the fantastical and a brief trip into nostalgia.

Presenter

Dr Sumei Karen Tan is a teaching fellow with the Winchester School of Art where she teaches the fundamentals in research methods to students in the MA in Fashion Marketing and Branding programme. Karen has taught in Singapore, Malaysia, China and in the UK. After gaining her PhD in English from the ÃÛÌÒTV specialising in the reception of Gothic texts and films among young readers, Karen has continued to teach at the ÃÛÌÒTV. Besides lecturing in research and qualitative methods, she also runs writing workshops for postgraduate research students from the Faculty of Arts and Humanities for the Doctoral College at the university.
